There is nothing cozier than a fireplace on a cool beach night. We finished this one in a tabby shell stucco with a pecky cypress mantle taking cues from the beach just steps away.
Starting with a simple blueprint, we watched this house grow every day into something really special for our client Jim Steckel. We looked at each white space on the plan and created tile designs for the bathrooms, the kitchen layout and cabinet designs, added arched doorways, cypress accents and vaulted ceilings. We also created a new finish for the tongue and groove pine walls that gave them a velvety gray appearance so the natural texture of the wood grain shows through. And for the flooring, we custom finished oak wood planks by first wire brushing, then white washing, sanding and finally finishing with a stain- very beachy and reminiscent of driftwood. Top it all off with a few mercury glass pendants, a driftwood orb in the stairwell and a beaded chandelier in the dining room and we had a pretty spectacular beach home. Not only was it a lot of fun but we couldn't be happier with the end result. All photos courtesy of Rice Construction
This house is such a neat beach home. It's on a tiny cobbled road less than a block from the beach in Old Seagrove. We did a full renovation, including new flooring, tabby shell stucco fireplace, completely new kitchen and bathrooms, all new lighting and of course a whole new color palette. We also built a really fun bunk room and a great outdoor area finished with coral stone. The swimming pool has a sun shelf, bubble fountains and a fire pit. And if you look all the way up to the top of the live oak trees you'll see a brand new tower with views of the gulf. All photos courtesy of Rice Construction Group

Old Seagrove Homes was created out of a chance meeting one summer night on a roof deck overlooking the beach in 2007. While Alex was already running a construction company, Cynthia had studied fine arts and design. Three children and many projects later, the couple knew that what had started out as a construction company, was quickly growing into something much more. Today, Alex and Cynthia Rice work together as a design team, building inspiring homes from conception to construction and custom finishes. Thanks for following along with us!
