I've come to the conclusion lately that runners are quite possibly the ultimate accessory. For a relatively small investment, you can add high impact design to your space. A great runner can add that unexpected pattern, detail or burst of color to an otherwise neutral room. Think beyond just your hallways, but into spaces like the bathroom, kitchen or laundry room. Here is a roundup of my current favorites.
I'm continuing the tour of 70 Seagrove Village Drive with 3 bedrooms and 1 really fun bunk room! When designing the Master Suite we wanted to create an elegant retreat. We included an intimate study just off of the bedroom, complete with custom pecky cypress built ins to complement the rustic vaulted ceilings. Vintage velvet chairs, blue linen upholstery and bits of blue and glass throughout mix perfectly with the rustic cypress ceilings, solid beams and warm paint colors. I just loved the Blue Bedroom. The pecky cypress headboard niche was the perfect thing to make this bedroom feel so custom and elegant. I especially love the mix of the gold sconces on the rustic, weathered wood. Here is a look at the downstairs bedroom. Classic blue and white toile and tons of natural light make this space such a pretty coastal style. I LOVE bunk rooms! For this great space I found the greatest Otomi pillows with a bright punch of color on top of a soft cabana stripe. We designed the diamond detail on the railing and built the back wall out of pecky cypress. A staircase between the bunks makes this space more polished and perfect for little little climbers.
The living and dining rooms are in the same open space so it was important that the design flow together. Architecturally, we tied the whole space together with a coffered ceiling. We maximized the windows and kept the color scheme bright and airy. The dining room is anchored with large windows framed with breezy white linen curtains. Some serious polish was added with a large gold and seed pearl chandelier. I love striking a balance between the rustic and the more elegant elements in a space. The living room is centered around a tabby shell stucco fireplace. Here's a closeup of the surface. It is truly beautiful. Alex found a gorgeous live edge piece of cypress at the lumber yard. My jaw dropped. It has the most amazing natural color and texture- gray and weathered like an old piece of driftwood. Alex cut it to size and we hung it in place and tried to imagine the completely blank space as a finished room. After a lot of back and forth we agreed to use it. A lot of people thought it was too rustic, but we just knew it would be perfect once all of the furnishings were in place. This coffee table was the perfect elegant counterpoint. The sea glass gliders are an especially great addition because they can swivel around to look out the infinity door that opens to the swimming pool and outdoor living areas.

Old Seagrove Homes was created out of a chance meeting one summer night on a roof deck overlooking the beach in 2007. While Alex was already running a construction company, Cynthia had studied fine arts and design. Three children and many projects later, the couple knew that what had started out as a construction company, was quickly growing into something much more. Today, Alex and Cynthia Rice work together as a design team, building inspiring homes from conception to construction and custom finishes. Thanks for following along with us!
