Seagrove Beach house- Kitchen

I know I say it all the time, but I love kitchens.  They are my favorite room in the house. And they're all different depending on where you are and what's important to you. If you're lucky enough to have one on the coast, I think it needs to be a space where you can  entertain your guests with dinner and cocktails but also a place where you can wear bathing suits, have sandy toes and fry the fish you just caught off the beach. I knew as soon as Alex and I started working on this home that it would be inspired by our natural surroundings. We spend a lot of time outside and love the soft, natural colors of the sand, weathered wood and blue water.

For our Seagrove Beach House kitchen, I started with the backsplash. I usually start designing a space by choosing the part that has the fewest options (tile and lighting) and then work my way out to the areas that are easier to customize (like paint colors, hardware, accessories). I wanted to use a coastal but classic pattern and when I found this blue and white marble mosaic I knew it was the perfect choice. The large gold pendants provide a nice color contrast and the whole space is then tied together with the larger areas of cabinetry. We started with our signature warm wood on the kitchen island and hood. Alex went to work finding all of gorgeous cypress. It's all natural- no stain. Try as we might, there is just no substitute for the real deal when it comes to beautifully colored cypress.

I wanted this beach house kitchen to feel sunny, bright and open, so I decided to paint the cabinets on the back wall. We kept the interior of the glass front cabinet lined with black cypress which gives it extra detail and depth. Soft gold hardware completes the space with an extra sunny touch.

Burnt Pine Cove- Bar

When entertaining, it's great to have a lot of different places to gather, so, we love to incorporate a bar in our homes. For this project, we kept the style consistent with the rest of the home- modern with a bohemian edge. I love lighting and a bar is the perfect place to create a relaxed mood. This pendant has a Moroccan feel and looks great with the chevron tiled back wall. We also lit the inside of the cabinets, which gives soft texture to the space. I kept the palette relaxed, with different shades of white to complement the breezy, coastal feel of the home.

Burnt Pine Cove- Master Bathroom

Today, I'm continuing the tour of our Burnt Pine Lane home with a look at the Master Bathroom. I wanted this space to feel like a luxurious retreat- clean and modern with a bohemian edge to the style. We started the space with Carrara marble on the floors and in the shower. To soften the space we used painted pecky cypress on the vaulted ceiling and framed the windows with breezy, white linen curtains. I chose an upholstered bench for beneath the window and a woven blue and white basket for laundry.

The Moroccan mirrors add gorgeous curvilinear shape and shine in combination with the antiqued mirrored sconces.

When designing cabinetry, we're always thinking about making a space as beautiful as it is functional. An extra storage tower between the vanities is the perfect space for towels and other bathroom necessities.

We decided to tile the entire back wall of the tub area with a chevron mosaic carrara tile to give the space texture. Lighting is recessed above the wall and is perfect for an evening soak. I found this simple but large pendant to bring the whole space together. It's soft gold finish makes the whole space elegant without feeling like it's too much.

Old Seagrove Homes was created out of a chance meeting one summer night on a roof deck overlooking the beach in 2007. While Alex was already running a construction company, Cynthia had studied fine arts and design. Three children and many projects later, the couple knew that what had started out as a construction company, was quickly growing into something much more. Today, Alex and Cynthia Rice work together as a design team, building inspiring homes from conception to construction and custom finishes. Thanks for following along with us!
