I have this thing for bunk rooms. They are like little jewel boxes. All of your favorite goodies are right at your fingertips. Really, who didn't love playing in a tree house or fort when they were young? We love taking all of the convenience and elegance of a spacious, well appointed room and putting it into a charming nook. Staircases are always a fun addition. They add instant charm, safety for little feet and they're a fun little spot to sit and visit with your bunk mates. We also love adding a sophisticated sconce to each space. It's the perfect bit of elegance to complement a cypress accent wall and also a wonderful convenience for each guest. Of course, shelves for books and plugs for phones are also great. Add in a cute railing and drawers for storage and you have great little space.
Seagrove Village Drive, Seagrove Beach
This bunk room was part of a much larger space. We designed and built these great bunks with four twin beds. I wanted it to be a space that would be comfortable for all ages and both boys and girls alike. A navy and white color scheme is both classic and crisp. The fun Otomi embroidered pillows add that fun pop of color on a sea blue cabana stripe.
We added this cute sitting area by the windows for additional sitting. It also serves as a nice spot for books and games. Because this room is on the second floor and partially in the roof line, we were able to build in closets for extra luggage, hanging clothes and shoes- a real rarity for most bunk rooms.
We also added a slipcovered sleeper sofa for even more sleeping spots. Of course, it's also a pretty great spot to lounge and hang out.
Gulf Bridge Lane, Watersound Beach
This space in the top of a third floor room, became the perfect hideaway. We decided to make it into a bunk because on the other side of that wall is an amazing view of the coastal dune lakes and gulf beyond. We placed a window in the perfect viewing spot and trimmed the walls out in cypress, stained a lovely brown. Add in a quaint ladder and this space was turned into an absolutely dreamy getaway.
Live Oak Street, Seagrove Beach
We transformed what was once an empty storage room with old carpet into this charming, polished bunk room that can sleep six people. That's right. We put queen beds on the right which is just downright luxurious for a bunk and even appropriate for an adult guest room. We put twin beds on the left. Custom staircases were built on both sides, with storage nooks under both and a closet under the larger one on the right. What you can't see is the TV above the french doors that look out onto the outdoor living area and swimming pool. It may be small, but it is the ultimate in small, well designed spaces.
These are our homes, the things that inspire us and our joys in life.
